Multi-Skilled Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £44,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday | 7:00am – 4:00pm (1-hour lunch)
⏰ Overtime: Available when required

The Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Multi-Skilled Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production machinery, plant equipment, and building services.
This hands-on position would suit a proactive engineer with strong fault-finding abilities across both electrical and mechanical disciplines who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across production machinery and site equipment.
- Respond promptly to reactive maintenance and equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Diagnose and repair faults on:
- Pumps
- Gearboxes
- Pneumatic systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Electric motors
- Drives and inverters
- Control panels
- Safely isolate electrical and mechanical systems in line with Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Manufacture or modify mechanical components including brackets, guards and gaskets.
- Replace faulty electrical and mechanical components efficiently and safely.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify root causes of recurring faults and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Assist with the installation, testing and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
- Ensure all machinery complies with current Health & Safety and Environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to maximise equipment reliability and production efficiency.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with Production and Operations teams to schedule maintenance effectively.
- Supervise and coordinate external contractors carrying out specialist maintenance work.
- Escalate major engineering issues where necessary.
- Support and train production operators on basic machine operation and routine maintenance.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or time-served qualification.
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or BTEC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Previous experience working as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- HNC/HND in Engineering or a related discipline.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (preferred for electrically biased engineers).
Skills & Experience
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills including PLCs, three-phase systems, motors, relays and drives.
- Excellent mechanical maintenance experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps and gearboxes.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Competent using electrical testing equipment and mechanical hand tools.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to overtime when required.
